Laika:
The Russian mixed-breed dog became known as the first creature to be transported into orbit. Laika was part of the Sputnik 2 mission and was launched into space on a small rocket in November 1957. Although it was considered a great achievement for many years, there is controversy surrounding her mission. Laika was sent with a limited lifespan. Unfortunately, she died shortly before reaching space.
